La Roche-Posay Sunscreen Anthelios XL review

Monday 9 June 2014

With summer here, it's now time to talk about Sunscreens. While it might not be the most glamorous thing to buy, it's very important you look after your skin in the sun.

Being a huge fan of french skin care, it's only natural I would choose La Roche-Posay to keep my skin protected in the summer (and winter too!).

Lately I've been using 2 products from the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL range: The extreme fluid and the Dry touch gel-cream. Both are factor 50+, which I always use on my face while out in the sun.

What I like about the Anthelios XL range is that it provides both UVB and UVA protection. If you've always wondered the difference...basically UVB are the rays that cause our skin to burn. It effects only the superficial layers of skin, and can cause permeant damaged if its constantly burned. Now UBA, these are the rays that cause our skin to age. They rays penetrate deep into the dermis and without proper protection can lead to premature ageing. So when picking sunscreen, especially for your face always make sure you buy one with UVB and UBA protection. Both creams are also fragrance and paraben free.

Anthelios XL Extreme fluid - 50+ : €15.70*
First up, I'll go over the packaging. Extreme fluid comes in the perfect size 50ml bottle, which is slim and has a nozzle which makes it easy to apply. As the name suggest, it's a very liquid formula, which soaks easily into the skin.Extreme fluid is perfect for sensitive skin that burns easily. It's also suitable for oily and acne prone skin.

I find that after apply, it leaves a tiny hint of white which is why I use this when I'm sunbathing and not wearing any make up. It's also water resistant up to 80 mins, so it's a perfect choice for when i'm at the beach or pool.

Anthelios XL Dry touch gel-cream: €14.90
This product comes in a handy 50ml squeeze tube, perfect for carrying around with you like the extreme fluid. The dry touch gel-cream formula is slightly thicker and the extreme fluid, but soaks into the skin and is dry to touch almost instantly. When I'm not sun bathing, I use the Dry touch gel-cream. This is also an anti-shine shine formula which works great as a primer underneath your foundation.

I have been applying this in the morning before leaving the house. Like with the extreme fluid, I would suggest removing any sun screen before you go out in the evening...well if you plan on taking any photos that is - we all know what happens with SPF and camera flashes - eek!

If you've yet to pick up your sun protect yet, make sure you head to your nearest pharmacy and pick up some La Roche-Posay, you won't just put any old moisturiser or foundation on your face - so don't make the same mistake with sunscreen. 1. I use the dry touch gel every day under my makeup and I love it, I've got really oily skin and I find it really helps with that :) it's all about the factor 50!
