NYX Cosmetics Malta - Official Event

Saturday 31 August 2013

If you haven't heard by now NYX Cosmetics has finally opened their doors here in Malta and I was lucky enough to be invited to their bloggers night on Wednesday. I had actually been in the store on the day they opened(I couldn't wait!), If you didn't catch my video about my first visit you can watch it here - link . As you can image I was quite excited about this, as was everyone who was there.

I'll make this a photo heavy post as....well who doesn't love photos, but here is the key points that you need to know:

  • NYX Cosmetics is located in Sliema on Tower Road directly across from Morgan(Near the plaza entrance)
  • Prices are similar to UK and not overpriced.
  • The have a brow and lash bar + make up service

I throughly enjoyed myself at the event, the people at NYX couldn't of been nicer and we were made to feel very welcome. This store has so much to offer, there is hundreds of products to chose from, they even had make up chairs and vanities (I almost bought the chair!) There is so much to see, and when you think you've seen everything there is something else to look at!

I am officially drowning in NYX products at the moment so I'll do a massive haul video to show you guys what I got, and expect a lot of reviews over the coming weeks. I highly recommend you check out the store if you haven't already, you won't be disappointed.

MAC Mythology Eyeshadow

Friday 23 August 2013

I'm only a few eyeshadows away from filling up my MAC pro palette so every time I get a chance to visit MAC I always try to pick up a new shade. Last month I was in Amsterdam for a few days on business and I was lucky enough to have a free afternoon so I jumped on the tram with my google maps app open and went on a mission to find me some MAC! The last time I was there a few years ago I visited a MAC store, but I couldn't find it again but I did manage to find a Douglas store which had a counter.

Amongst the things I picked up was the beautiful copper/pink - rose gold eyeshadow with a frost finnish. It was more of an impulse buy at the time, but when I got round to opening it up I realised actually how nice it is.

Like most MAC eyeshadows, it's well pigmented and applies easily onto the lid. At first I thought I might be too much to wear during the day but below is a look I created with some gold in the corners and on my bottom lash line and it was fine. I think this colour would also look beautiful in the evening with a black smokey eye.

I have one space left in my Pro palette, so I'm looking for suggestions on what I should get?

The Body Shop - Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub

Wednesday 21 August 2013

Since I've rekindled my love for The Body Shop and the fact its basically across from my office I'm always popping in to see what I can buy next. I was on the hunt for a new body scrub and after smelling about the 15 different scents I settle for the Pink Grapefruit one as it's nice as fresh smelling.

At first when I was trying it in the shop I didn't think it would be a rough enough scrub but the sales assistant assured me it was when you put it on properly. I like my body scrubs quite rough, I love good scrub!! Anyway when I got it home and got to try it properly in the shower I was pleasantly surprised, there was a good bit of scrub in it.

During the summer months my legs are normally on show and my pasty British skin just doesn't want to tan so I normally apply a gradual tanner 1-2 times a week, this scrub is perfect for those nasty patches you get after a week, so I've been using this to remove it all before apply some fresh tan.

If you are looking for anew body scrub like I was, I recommend you check out The Body Shop range, they have loads of different scents to chose from and all Make-up, skin care, bath and Body is on 3 for 2 at the moment so i'll be stocking up!

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge Fresh Melon Review

Tuesday 20 August 2013

I'm not normally one for a blog selfie, but this product was just too gorgeous on not to show you guys!

The Bobbie Brown Pot Rouge is a multi-use product and be used on the lips and cheeks. It comes in a cute little compact which is perfect to keep in your bag. Fresh melon is a neutral pink-peach shade perfect for day or night to bring some warmth to your face.

The formula is non-sticky, although it did feel a little strange applying it to my cheeks at first, it didn't bother me afterwards (only because I normally wear a powder blush) and I was quite pleased with the results. It's also moisturising and didn't dry out my lips at all.

TIP -If your not used to apply cream blush i suggest putting a little on your fingers and dabbing it on to build the colour you want then blending it in.

The colour lasted well, I applied this early afternoon before going out and it stayed well in place until I got home later in the evening, however you may need to top up your lips a little if you drinking/eating.

There are 9 colours in total in the whole range and I've already got my eye on a few others. Bobbi Brown is one of they brands I hadn't tried until recently, and I have no idea why. They've always had amazing products, maybe I just couldn't pick one. But now I've started there is no stopping me!

NYX Purple Smokey Look Kit

Monday 19 August 2013

I'm having a whole NYX drama at the moment! I've been waiting for the store in Malta to open for what seems like forever, and they are just days away from launch and the anticipation is killing me. I can see the shop from my office, and every so often I wander over and look out to window to see if they've opened yet! There is just so many things I want to get my hands one, I already have a wish list and i'll be in there like supermarket sweep when the doors open!

Anyway to get you all excited about the opening of the store as I am I decided to do a post on the NYX Smokey Look Kit. It contains 9 eyeshadows, 2 lip colours and 2 applicators.

Here is what the colours look like -

Top Row

Middle Row

Bottom Row

Lip Colour

These kits are amazing and great value for money when experimenting with make up. The pigmentation of the eyeshadows aren't over powering so they are very easy to building up and if you make a mistake you won't have to start from the beginning again. They are also handy because the colours in the palette compliment each other, so you're more or less guaranteed to not look ridiculous! There are also instructions on the box so you really can't go wrong with these. However I would recommend purchasing some separate brushes and not using the one with the kit, not matter what brand you buy I always find these brushes fiddly and not great to work with.

If you're in Malta and want to try this out for yourself, head down to Sliema when the shop opens (Date TBC) and try them out for yourself, there have other palletes as well so I'm sure you'll find something to your liking. NYX is a great brand with excellent value for money. If your not lucky enough to be in Malta you can also online at the NYX website.

La Roche Posay Ultra-Fine face scrub

Saturday 17 August 2013

Sometimes living in Malta has it advantages (behinds the obvious hot weather) and that is I find amazing skin care products that are often difficult to get in the UK in a small pharmacy 20 meters from my apartment! Unfortunately in Malta we don't have a shop similar to Boots in the UK we you have to visit to independent pharmacies for most beauty products and some of them a treasure trove of French and American brands....I don't know why but i'm not complaining!

Anyway so while I waiting in line I spotted a shelf of La Roche Posay and my eyes lit up! This is my first purchase from the brand and I need a new face scrub and well the rest is history, but i'll call it fate!

La Roche Posay Ultra fine scrub, is in fact just that - an ultra fine scrub for the face. The first thing I noticed is it smells amazing but no over powering, the scrub is also so gentle you can use it every day.

I've been using this for a few weeks now and it does a great job at keeping my skin smooth, I also like to use a slightly harsher scrub once a week but I like to use this one daily.

As I mentioned before I picked this up from my local pharmacy for around 9 but if your in the UK you can purchase it online from Boots for £9.70.

I'm keen to try more products from La Roche Posay, so let me know what's your favourite or what you like to see reviewed.

Chanel Illusion D'ombre - Emerveille

Thursday 15 August 2013

Illusion D'Ombre in shade Emerveille is a illuminating mouse eyeshadow. I saw this when it first came out, and when I had my first set of visitors over from the UK I asked them to pick it up for me. There is a few shades in this range, and I have my eyes on some others but I thought I would start with something I could where everyday.

Like all Chanel packing, it's high end and sturdy. The jar is made of glass and you even get a small applicator as well.

On the website, the shade looks like a baby pink but in real life it's more of a beige/bronze colour with a shimmer finish. Very neutral and suitable for during the day.

The pigmentation is good and it gives you a good even colour without being flaky or chalky.

Overall I really like this eyeshadow, the mouse formula is something different and they have really nice colours in the range. It is expensive for a single eyeshadow, but if you feel like treating yourself to a high-end everyday eyeshadow I would recommend Emerville.

Have you trid the Illusion D'omber range? What do you think?

Honey Bronze - Shimmering Dry Oil Review

Tuesday 13 August 2013

I came across this Honey Bronze Dry Oil last year at the time I was in two minds about buying it at the time and ended up not bothering. The body shop wasn't somewhere I usually shopped but since moving jobs - my new lunch time shopping buddy has got me addicted to their products again. So on one lunchtime spending spree I remember about it, hoping it was still available and it was. This time I decided to buy it, and I'm glad I did!

Honey Bronze is a bronze dry oil, it's not going to give a tan but it does give just a hint of colour with a very subtle shimmer. The smell is amazing, when i'm wearing this I don't use scented body lotion or perfume as the smell from this is gorgeous just on its own. It's great for making your legs look better. I also use it on my arms and a little on my collar bone.

If you do buy this, make sure to give it a good shake before applying as the shimmer does tend to settle to the bottom on the bottle.

The formula is light weight and non-greasy and soaks easily into the skin with very little or no drying time.

This product is perfect for me, when my legs are on show 5 months of the years but it's also great for nights out and taking on holiday.

In store in Malta it's also around 16 (Bargain)

Cetaphil Cleanser Review

Sunday 11 August 2013

In the past I'd heard American bloggers raving about Cetaphil cleanser and to be honest if I hadn't heard it being recommended I probably wouldn't of looked twice at the products. I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and Cetaphil doesn't fall into that category but it's what's on the inside that counts and in this case that's very true!

I've been using Cetaphil every evening before bed for the last few months. For years I preferred to use a product that I could put on a cotton pad to remove my make and clean my skin, but I made a habit of doing this every night and now I actually enjoy it. I find the whole process quite relaxing and refreshing.

That's all great but does it work I hear you ask? Well I have seen a huge noticeable difference, breakouts are more or less unheard off, my skin tone has improved and just all round looking a lot better! No wonder everyone was raving about this. The best part, it's suitable for dry skin and is soap and fragrance free!

Cetaphil is available in the UK from Boots priced £8.99, I picked my bottle up from the Pharmacy in Sliema (just up the hill from Inglot) for around 12.

Have you tried any Cetaphil products?

Solevation Foot Scrub Mat Review and GIVEAWAY

Saturday 10 August 2013

It's been pretty hot this summer so far in both Malta and the UK and hot weather for me means one thing - flip flops. I don't know about you, but during the summer I live in my flip flops. But there comes a down side to airing your toes all day - dry feet! Which can be pretty annoying and the last thing I want to do is sleep with moisturising socks on when its 30 degrees, so when I heard about the Solevation Foot Scrub my ears pricked up...."What's that? a foot scrub mat for your shower you say?"

This nifty little thingy has been a god send, you simply pop the mat in your shower (there is suction pads on the bottom) and while your taking your shower you just rub your feet on the loaf part or the sand section for those most stubborn for areas, for 3 minutes a day and in 3-7 days - voila baby smooth feet it's as simple as that.

This product has been a god send this summer, I've even caught the Mr having a go! If your looking smooth feet I'd highly recommend this product.
