Vichy Dermablend 16Hr Foundation

Saturday, 18 April 2015

So when it comes to foundation, I normally stick to what I know best. I like a full coverage foundation (I don’t like my freckles) and normally reach for Estee Lauder - Double wear as it gives me a complete coverage, but I always found it quite heavy on my skin.

When I heard about the Vichy Dermablend foundation, I had to give it a try as it promised a full coverage without the heaviness. I have to say I haven’t been disappointed. The Vichy dermablend 16 hr foundation is just perfection. The formula is light weight yet the coverage is full. I applied this using my new beauty blender (review coming soon) and I was just blown away with the results. Not only did it cover all my freckles and imperfections, it blended like a dream and didn’t have that cakey felling you get with full coverage foundations.

The best part of it all is it lasts for up to 16 hrs and has SPF 35 so it’s perfect for your everyday foundation. I wore it for around 12-13hrs and it was still looking good at the end of the day. This is my holy grail of foundation. If you’re like me and like a full coverage foundation and normally reach for Double Wear, I would highly recommend you pick up some Vichy dermablend, not only is it half the price, in my opinion it does a better job as well.

Vichy Dermablend 16Hr Foundation is available from pharmacies across Malta, priced €17.90*

They will shortly be launching the other products of Dermablend in Malta later in the year such as the compact foundation, corrective stick and finishing powder. So keep your eyes peeled.

Dr.Organic Pomegranate Body Butter

Sunday, 23 November 2014

Last week I attended the Dr Organic event, you can read more about that and the Dr Organic brand here. While I was there I picked up some goodies to try, one of them was this Organic Pomegranate Body Butter.

I’ve been using this product for the last week and I’m in love. With the cold weather, comes the inevitable dry sky, I don’t know about you guys but my legs seem to get it the worst. But thankfully this yummy body butter has been keeping my pins silky smooth and soft.

The scent of the product isn’t over powering, which I like but has a gentle clean and fresh scent. This is actually my first every pomegranate product, and so far i’m very much enjoying it, but it’s not only the scent. The strong antioxidant properties found in pomegranate protect the skin from harmful free radicals.

As well as being hydrating and soaking into the skin so easily...not to mention that it’s non-greasy. The butter butter is also the very latest in cell rejuvenating, anti aging as well as containing bioactive ingredients. It also contains shea butter, jojoba, aloe vera and vitamin E. You’ll be please to know it doesn’t include any paragons, SLS, artificial colours, fragrances or harsh preservatives.

Overall I really love this product, like I mention it soaks easily into the skin and keeping my dragon legs at bay. If you’re looking to keep your skin hydrated throughout the winter months (or anytime) I recommend you pick up some.

Dr.Organic is available from various outlets around Malta. Click here to find your nearest retailer.

TRESemmé Keratin Smooth review [Part 2]

Monday, 3 November 2014

So welcome to part 2, and my follow up to my first impressions post of the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth 7 day system, if you missed part 1, you can catch up here

So since my last post, I really put this system to the test. After my first wash, I applied the keratin smooth serum, dried my hair and carefully straightened each section as directed. But the big test would come in the following washes...for my first wash after applying the serum, I treated myself to a blow try before flying to Barcelona on a work trip. I packed my straightens with me and looking back I could of saved myself some space!

So after my blow try, the first thing I noticed was how shiny my hair was, like 'wow' shiny, not to mention how smooth and straight my shiny hair was. So anyway, I set off on business and in the evening when I take of my make up and wash my face I tie my hair into a bun and sleep like that. It usually requires a little straightening in the morning to work out the kinks from the bun but for the first time ever....I had no kinks, I just brushed my hair and it was smooth and poker straight. I couldn't believe it, but the same thing happen the follow mornings as well!! My morning hair routine went from 20 mins to 2 mins...it was amazing.

I wanted to keep this new magic hair that I'd suddenly gotten so at the end of week one, I washed and blow dried my hair again using the TRESemmé Keratin smooth serum. My next wash was another blow dry, but this time I was visiting my close friend and hair dresser in the UK. As she washed my hair I sat and told her about the TRESemmé Keratin smooth system that I was testing out and how impressed with it I was. I opted for a big bouncy style, but my hair was still silky smooth and very much shiny and healthy looking.

People often think with that keratin treatments you'll only need to have one style - poker straight. But that's not true, the keratin will smooth your hair, not chemically straighten it. As you can see from my selfie, you can have smooth, shiny and still fabulously bouncy hair too.

So far this system is a winner in my eyes. I'll report back in a few weeks with my final verdict, but in the mean time check out the TRESemmé Malta Facebook page for more information.

Pampering Time with Uriage

Wednesday, 1 October 2014

On Sunday evening before going back to work, I treated myself to a girlie pampering session full of goodies from Uriage. As the sun set for the day, I ran myself a deep hot bath adding some bubbles to top it off. Choosing a youtube playlist and lighting some scented candles I settled into my hot bath with a good book.

After relaxing for a bit I treated myself to an all exfoliation using Uriage Gommage Integral *- a gentle exfoliating scrub that can be used all over - even on the face and it’s perfect for sensitive skin. The scrub comes in a blue gel with tiny exfoliating beads that left my skin feeling fresh and polished. What I love about this scrub is the scent, it’s very Spa like and relaxing but fresh at the same time.

After washing my hair and applying a deep condition treatment I settle back, relax for a bit and continued reading my book. At this point I wish Monday wouldn’t come - don’t we all?

After rinsing my hair and before getting out the bath, I finished off with some soap free - Creme Lavante* nourishing body wash (also suitable for sensitive skin). This product also has a nice clean and fresh smell and left my skin feeling soft.

After drying off, I applied some Suppleance Corps* - a moisturising and nourishing, creamy body milk and let it soak into my skin before slipping into some comfortable pyjamas. The body lotion has a similar scent to the body wash and I was smelling pretty clean spa like and my skin was well hydrated and soft.

While settling down to binge watch Orange is the new Black (I’m a little behind on my TV shows at the moment!) with a big bowl of low-fat popcorn and some herbal tea, I couldn’t forgot my night time skin care and applied my favourite Aqua Precis* intense nutrition balm (Baume nutrition intense), which is a super hydrating day/night cream. It’s perfect if your skin needs a little pick me up, or you can use it daily if you have dry skin. I also use it during the summer on sunburn as it really puts back the hydration you lose when it burns, i find it soothing on the skin too.

I then finished the evening off with a little mani-pedi, feeling relaxed, refreshed and smelling amazing...almost ready to take on the week ahead. I think it’s important whether your single or a mother of 4 to have some pampering time, just an hour or so to catch up on yourself at least once a month. You don’t need to go to spa, you can create your own little spa at home like I did.

Uriage products are available from phamaries around Malta.
For more information on the products you can visit the Uriage website

Uriage Gommage Intergal (Body Scrub) - €12.50
Creme Lavante (Body Wash) - 200ml €7.25/500ml €14.25
Suppleance Crops (Body Milk) 200ml €8.10/500ml €15.60
Aqua Percis Balm (face cream - day/night) - €18.90

A day in sun with Hawaiian Tropic...

Wednesday, 16 July 2014

With the sizzling hot sun in Malta, it’s important that you look after you skin properly and ensure you are fully protected from head to toe. Now that the weather has finally realised it’s summer, last weekend I decided to take advantage of some rays to top up start my tan, with a little help from Hawaiian Tropic Malta.

With my own little piece of paradise on my terrace, I looked out all the essentials for a day of relaxation. With Ed Sheeran blaring away, I topped up my water jug (remember it’s very important to stay hydrated in the sun), laid out my towel and started applying my Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection 50+ (I’m very pale!) , not forgetting my lips I applied some Hawaiian tropic lip gloss and settled back with a stack of glossy magazines.

Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection applies easily and evenly to the skin, even with factor 50 - it didn’t leave me looking even whiter than I already am. The ultra radiance formula soaks in easily and gave my skin a little bit of a glow so my white skin wasn’t blinding others. The cream is also oil free so there was no chance of me slipping off my sun lounger! If you’ve ever used Hawaiian Tropic before you’ll know how amazing it smells, it brings back fond memories of holidays with its coconut and tropical fragrance.

Now this all sounds great - but does it protect your skin from sun? The short answer is - Yes with an A+ rating. Hawaiian Tropic Satin protection and lip gloss both protect your skin from UVA (4* superior rating) and UVB rays, which is the first thing I look for in a sun screen. I feel it’s important to have both because while UVB are the rays that burn your skin, UBA are the rays that cause premature ageing in the skin. Neither of which I want to happen, so always pick up sun protection with both.

While getting my tan on, I made sure I reapplied protection every few hours to stop getting burnt. Not forgetting to top up my lip gloss, not only did I look fabulous with a glossy pout - it stopped my lips from getting burnt as well. The non sticky gloss just glides on, and is also moisturising - not to mention that the Island berry flavour smells amazing which i've been using daily since.

After an exhausting day doing not much, having read all celebrity gossip I called it day around 4pm and hit the shower to wash off my sun cream and admire my tan in the bathroom mirror - there is just something about showers that make your tan look ten times better - right?

After feeling refreshed, I applied the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun to keep my skin moisturised. The dual ribbon formula is infused with cooling aloe gel and ultra moisturising lotion which left my skin silky smooth. Even the next morning I noticed that my skin was still silky smooth. This is another Hawaiian Tropic product that smells amazing with its coconut and papaya fragrance, with such a holiday smell it was almost disappointing that I had to go to work the next day and not do it all over again!

If you're spending any time in the sun this summer (which i’m sure you will be..) I recommend you check out the Hawaiian Tropic range if not for the A+ protection but for the amazing smell alone (but protection is just as important!). They have a full range of protection factors as well as tanning oils for those with already tanned skin as well as after sun care.

Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection SPF 50+ 200ml - €12.95*
Hawaiian Tropic Island Berry Lip Gloss SPF 25 - €5.95*
Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Oil Intense SPF 2 200ml - €9.95*
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun 180ml - €10.95

Environ Facial at Beauty & Co, Malta

Monday, 27 January 2014

After the festive season and a couple of long haul flights my skin was in desperate need of some TLC. On Saturday I popped along to my regular Salon - Beauty & Co in Swieqi to try out an Environ facial. When Brad Pitt was in Malta filming World War Z he specifically asked for Environ - if it’s good enough for Brad, it’s good enough for me!

The science bit

The Environ facial is the first Cosmo-ceutical (cosmetic and pharmaceutical) of it’s kind. If you’re looking to lie there while someone cleans your face this isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a facial that will really give you results and you can feel it working - then keep reading.

Environ was started in South Africa and formulated as a preventative measure for skin cancer. While using Environ products at home and having regular facials done, your skin creates its own natural SPF (approx SPF 20). This is achieved by introducing and increasing your levels of Vitamin A on the skin. There are 5 levels of vitamin A, and if you’re a first timer you’ll receive the lowest dose while eventually working your way up to level 5.

While using the special Environ DF machine (I’ll explain what that does in the next part) it allows your skin to absorb 100% of the product and repairs the skin underneath. It helps with all kinds of skin issues such as pigmentation, sagging, wrinkles, scars etc and by healing the skin underneath, in a months time through your natural skin shedding process, you’ll see the real results. However I saw immediate results, but i’ll see them even more in a few weeks time. When you first start using Environ, a photo is taken after your first session, and again after your 5th session to show you the results.

The process

The facial consists of an 8 step process and lasts 90 minutes. While laying comfortably on the bed all wrapped up cosy, it begins with a pre cleanser, this mineral oil cleans and unplugs the pores from deep inside. Next a clay mask is applied on top to pull out any of the nasty stuff clogging up your pores, and then Alpha gel is applied and massaged into the skin to remove any dead skin cells in the most gentle way possible. This is all carried out while using a steamer that aids in opening your pores and making your skin subtle. Once your pores have opened and all the dead skin is gone, the cleanser is applied and your face is massaged melting away any dirt or build up that you may have. Next up are the extractions, removing any black or white heads that you may have, then onto the interesting part...

A vitamin A serum is applied to the face in sections, and a hand held probe is massaged over the skin. Environ patented technology uses sonophoresis (ultra sound) allowing the vitamins to penetrate 100% into your skin (typically creams used at home penetrate 2% into the dermis). The process is painless, however you will feel a light sensation of a needle gently probing your skin (no needles are involved!) and hear a faint sound...which is difficult to describe but it’s like when the TV is on but there is no sound, just a slight hum of technology/electricity. It’s actually quite relaxing and nothing to worry about.

After the probe, I was then treated to a relaxing lymphatic, draining, facial massage. Last but not least was the Algae mask. My therapist Faye double checked if I was ok with the mask being over my eyes, before applying the mask (which I was, as you can see from the picture below), but you don’t have to. Personally I really love the sensation of masks being applied with brushes. It was a strange feeling having my eyes covered but not unpleasant. Once the mask was on, I was hooked back up to the Environ machine again for some iontophoresis (A small electric current) allowing all the vitamins to penetrate deep into my dermis. While it looks strange, you won’t feel anything, however you may see a faint strobe effect with your eyes closed. This step is not recommend for people with epilepsy. While I relaxed for 20 minutes, I was treated to a hand and arm massage which helped pass the time.

After 20 minutes the mask is removed. This was I think my favourite part because the mask is almost like silicone, so a perfect outline of my face was peeled off. (It was like that scene in Mrs Doubtfire!). Lastly a moisturiser and SPF is applied and that was me done. 90 minutes of relaxation and radiant skin!

Summary

I’m excited that Environ has launched in Malta and will be keeping up with regular Environ facials ever 4-6 weeks. I saw great results after my first session, so I can’t wait to see how great my skin looks in a few months time. If you’re looking for a facial that actually works, I would highly recommend trying an Environ facial- you won’t be disappointed!

Who, What, Where, When?

Environ Facials are available at Beauty & Co (Swieqi) priced €40-50 (depending on your vitamin level).

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Mains Review

Thursday, 23 January 2014

One of my skincare down falls has to be looking after my hands, which is bad I know. My nails are always manicured but when it comes to taking care of the skin I have to admit I can be a little lazy at times. You often see pictures of older celebrities looking youthful but their hands are always a big giveaway of their age.

With the blistering winter months ahead this year I've vowed to keep my hands in tip top condition, and by the way of perfect timing one of my favourite skin care brand - La Roche Posay launched their Cicaplast hand cream. I'm also currently using the Cicaplast lips (review) which I love so I had high hopes for the matching hand cream.

I've been using the Cicaplast mains for over a month now, and can tell you that it has been a staple product for me with this chilly weather. The formula is thick but non-greasy and absorbs easily into the hands giving them instant hydration - just what you need when they are dry and cold. Not only does it hydrate, it also soothes and protects the skin, perfect it you suffer from chapped or cracked skin.

The last few weeks I've been doing a lot of traveling, and with the tube being 50ml it was a perfect size for me to take on the plane as well to keep my hands hydrated throughout the flight as plane air conditioning can be quite harsh at time, especially on long haul flights.

If you're looking to keep your hands in tip-top condition this winter like me, I could recommend picking a tube of La Roche Posay Cicaplast mains next time you visit a pharmacy, it will be the boost your hands need.

La Roche Posay is available in pharmacies across Malta.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Lips review

Thursday, 12 December 2013

Cicaplast Lips - €5.50*

Winter is now well under way and while I look after my skin all year round, I give it a little more attention in the winter to make sure it's properly hydrated - those cold winds can really dry it out.

The first area of my skin to get affected is my lips, and when La Roche-Posay launched their Cicaplast lips in Malta, I couldn't wait to try it out. I'm already a big fan out their Anthelios Stick SPF 50+ that I carry around with me in summer so I had high expectations for this, and I can tell you I was wasn't disappointed.

When it comes to lip balms I can be quite picky. For lip care I prefer not to use products with petroleum jelly, as it acts as a barrier rather hydrating your lips and I'm happy that Cicaplast is free from petroleum jelly as well as lanolin. As horrible as Lanolin is, I know it works well on my lips keeping them soft and smooth, but I have seen the same results with Cicaplast as I have had with lanolin based products, which I'm very happy about - all the benefits without the icky factor! I've been using this product for the last 3 weeks and report back that it does work. My lips have stayed hydrated and soft even in the harsh weather we've been having.

The balm comes in a squeezable tube and the product is quite thick but applies easily to the lips and goes on clear with immediate results.

A little off topic but something I had to share - Did you know what La Roche-Posay is available in every pharmacy in Malta? This makes me happy!

Next time your in a pharmacy be sure to grab some of this to keep in your handbag, your lips will thank you for it!

Lierac Mésolift Serum

Saturday, 7 December 2013

Last month I was lucky enough to attend the launch of Lierac in Malta. I have to say I was rather excited, I love french skin care (don't they just have the best skin!) and was eager to try some Lierac products.

I've been just this Lierac Mésolift serum for the last 3 weeks now and I have to say I'm impressed. I've used it twice daily, once in the morning after cleansing my skin and before I got to bed after removing all my make up.

Mésolift Serum contains a cocktail of 5 vitamins, 6 minerals and hyaluronic acid which helps reenergise your skin. The formula is light weight, non greasy and easily soaks into the skin.

The glass bottle comes with dropper so you don't waste any product. One dropper full will do my whole face, while it doesn't seem like a lot of product a little really does go a long way. There is a slight scent to the serum, which is hard to describe but smells faintly of oranges, but fragrance isn't over powering.

While I generally take good care of my skin, I have to say that the Mésolift serum has helped my skin feel firmer and gave it that little extra glow.

If you're looking for some new skin scare, I would highly recommend that your check our the Lierac range, as mentioned in my last post they have products for all your needs! You can check out their full range at : www.lierac.com.mt , I've also spotted the products in Franks as well.

Have you tried any Lierac products, what was your favourite?

Make Up Store - Eyedust in Hot

Sunday, 17 November 2013

Back in September when I was at the Dean Gera Salon launch, I picked up a few items at the Make Up Store at The Point in Sliema, one of which was this eyedust in shade "hot". Hot is a metallic rose gold pigment powder which is just....well rather beautiful.

Make Up Store is a Swedish brand which launched this year in Malta. The product quality and prices are along the lines of MAC. If you haven't been yet, you need to go just to see all the colourful and sparkly products they have.

The eyedust is very light weight and applies effortlessly and is very well pigmented with a metallic finish.

How beautiful is that? Pretty darn gorgeous right. While I was there I also picked up some mixing liquid. I had been meaning to buy some for a while and since I was buying a loose powder I thought I would get some to try,

If you want your eyeshadow powders to last longer with a more intense colour I would recommend picking up some mixing liquid, it can instantly transform any of the products you have. All you do is put a few drops in a small mixer, something like a bottle cap or lip and add some powder/pigment.

Below you can see the difference between the two. On the left is the powder, and on the right is with mixing liquid.

I love this shade because it's very versatile, you can wear it during the day for a soft look femminine look and then with lashing of liquid eyeliner and mascara for sultry evening look. I haven't even thought about a dress or anything else but I think i'll be wearing this to some Christmas parties next month.

Have you been to the Make Up Store yet?

Pronails Nail bar Malta

Thursday, 14 November 2013

Being an expat I get so excited when UK/American products/services get launched in Malta(how excited was I about HD brows!). Now nail bars aren't new thing but it is in Malta. I remember seeing nail bars as a teenager and always imagined how fun it would be to hang out with friends and get your nails done but sadly up until I left the UK I had a job that required my nails to be short and unpainted. How as an adult with a desk job i'm free to paint my nails what ever colour I wish.

If you're a woman in Malta it's more than likely you get your nails done regularly, we all have our favourite salons but sometimes it can be hassle - there is no parking, your appointment is in the middle of the day but you have loads of errands to run.

Now the new Pronails nail bar might not solve all your problems but being conveniently located in The Point shopping centre does make it hassle free. There is ample parking(free with treatment of over 45 minutes), you can do your grocery shopping, grab some lunch and get your nails done all under one roof. Sounds good to me!

Pronails offer a wide range of services from gel nails, pedicures and quick polish change and everything else in between. The prices are very reasonable and are the same as any other salon on the island if not cheaper. Below is a few examples of their treatments.

Gell infills with colour finish - €25
Lux Manicure - €30
Polish to go - €10 (includes a free bottle of nail varnish)
Lux Pedicure - 30

Pronails Nail Bar is located on -1 in The Point, Sliema
To book an appoint you can call on 2060 1184 or email info@libertymalta.com.mt

Are you excited there is finally a nail bar in Malta?

Philip Kingsley comes to Malta

Saturday, 2 November 2013

When I heard that Philip Kingsley were launching in Malta I was pretty excited. Being an British ex-pat living here for a number of years it's always amazing to have British brands launch in Malta. So last weekend I went along to the launch event to find out what was in store.

If you haven't heard of the famous Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, where have you been? But for those of you who haven't heard about Philip Kingsley let me get you up to speed.

Philip "the hair doctor" Kingsley is the founder of Trichological Clinics in London's Mayfair and Harrods and also in New York. Having almost 60 years of Trichological(hair and scalp) experience he is the worlds most respected authority on hair and scalp health. He coined the phrase "Bad Hair Day"!

Their products are award winning, and they have a product for every imaginable hair problem as well as products to keep your scalp healthy such as scrubs and toners.

Products and treatments should be hitting the local salons in Malta near the end of the year. They will also be introducing Hair & Scalp spa treatment which is a 45 minute treatment where you scalp and hair is thoroughly taken care of while you relax with a head massage! I can't wait to try that one out.

Once I find out more about the salons and prices, I'll follow up with another blog post and some product reviews.

Are you excited for Philip Kingsley launching in Malta?

Selfridges now shipping to MALTA (and the rest of Europe)

Thursday, 12 September 2013

Malta has come on leaps and bounds in the last year or so. As an expat living on the Island is exciting when UK brands (or any brands for that matter) open up their boundaries and recognise the there are people in Malta who want to buy their products.

So when I found out that one of my favourite ships - Selfridges are now shipping to Malta I couldn't be happier....although my bank balance won't be!

Shipping to Malta is priced £15. Standard UK shipping is £5, which is basically hand delivered in branded packaging, so while some companies ship for free, I'm personally happy to pay a little extra to know my items will be safe, because let face it you can't just spend £10 in Selfridges!

Not all items online can be shipped due to certain restrictions (sorry girls no MAC cosmetics), but you can refine your search by international delivery on the side bar like this... That will make shopping a lot easier.

So fill up your baskets and have as much as I am - Take me to Selfridges

NYX Cosmetics Malta - Official Event

Saturday, 31 August 2013

If you haven't heard by now NYX Cosmetics has finally opened their doors here in Malta and I was lucky enough to be invited to their bloggers night on Wednesday. I had actually been in the store on the day they opened(I couldn't wait!), If you didn't catch my video about my first visit you can watch it here - link . As you can image I was quite excited about this, as was everyone who was there.

I'll make this a photo heavy post as....well who doesn't love photos, but here is the key points that you need to know:

  • NYX Cosmetics is located in Sliema on Tower Road directly across from Morgan(Near the plaza entrance)
  • Prices are similar to UK and not overpriced.
  • The have a brow and lash bar + make up service

I throughly enjoyed myself at the event, the people at NYX couldn't of been nicer and we were made to feel very welcome. This store has so much to offer, there is hundreds of products to chose from, they even had make up chairs and vanities (I almost bought the chair!) There is so much to see, and when you think you've seen everything there is something else to look at!

I am officially drowning in NYX products at the moment so I'll do a massive haul video to show you guys what I got, and expect a lot of reviews over the coming weeks. I highly recommend you check out the store if you haven't already, you won't be disappointed.
